Davida Ruharo

Davida Ruharo is a passionate scientist pursuing a career in Biotechnology, currently studying Biological Sciences with a specialisation in Genetics at Cardiff University (BSc). She is a recipient of the Beacon Leadership Scholarship, recognised for her change-inducing leadership and community impact.
Davida is current undertaking a placement year at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Italy. Here, she works to improve access to cutting-edge research for small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and researchers in developing countries. She has also led teams in entrepreneurial competitions, and attended classes by Cardiff University and Welsh ICE, enhancing skills in idea generation, marketing strategy and start-up financing.
Davida’s development of a website to reduce homelessness by improving community and service access won her team the ‘Most Innovative Idea’ award at the Inspire Hackathon and a finalist position in the Cardiff University Start-Up Award. Her committment to citizenship was further displayed in her volunteering for two years as a Debate Mate mentor to primary and secondary students in Cardiff. She has also led projects in Uganda focused on educating children and preparing them for a sustainable future in agriculture.
